Allen Curtiss selected to lead PNW golf teams

Purdue University Northwest Director of Athletics Rick Costello announced Allen Curtiss has been hired as the next head coach to lead the PNW women's and men's golf programs.

Curtiss recently served as head coach of both golf programs at Defiance College (OH) and Alderson Broaddus University (WV), where he was named the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men's Golf Coach of the Year.

"We are excited to welcome Allen Curtiss into the PNW Pride family," said Costello. "He brings tremendous experience through his time leading the women's and men's golf programs at both Defiance and Alderson Broaddus, and he has familiarity with the competitiveness of our conference after previously working at a GLIAC institution in Ferris State. Allen will do an excellent job leading our golf teams as we look to sustain our academic success and climb the GLIAC golf standings."

At Defiance, Curtiss was responsible for managing all facets of the NCAA Division III men's and women's golf programs including budget management, recruiting, fundraising, training and skill development. He mentored all-conference honoree Hayden Clingman last season, who was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

"I am excited to become the next head golf coach at Purdue Northwest," Curtiss said. "I want to thank Rick Costello and the search committee for this amazing opportunity to build a competitive program which competes in one of the strongest NCAA DII conferences in the GLIAC. I was drawn to the position after hearing the vision and seeing the passion that Rick Costello and the current players expressed during the interview process. I look forward to developing a strong relationship with the current players and hitting the recruiting trail."

Prior to Defiance, Curtiss served at Division II Alderson Broaddus University where he was the head men's and women's golf coach from 2014-17. He tutored nine all-conference performers during his time with the Battlers including six on the men's side and three from the women's team. Curtiss earned the G-MAC Coach of the Year award in 2016 after he had two all-conference selections with Julia Heser and Savannah Jackson the women's side while Jackson won G-MAC Freshman of the Year honors. And for the second straight year on the men's side, he had a G-MAC Freshman of the Year in Logan Lojszczyk. Three of his men's golfers placed inside the top seven at the 2016 G-MAC Championship.

Curtiss also served as the head men's golf coach from 1999-2004 at Division III Bluffton University (OH).

Over the years, Curtiss has been associated with college athletics in many capacities, including marketing, fundraising, team travel, recruiting, admissions and as an equipment manager. He began his coaching career in football and has been an adjunct physical education instructor and served as a golf tournament director for several events.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Western Michigan University, Curtiss went on the receive a Master of Education in athletic administration at the University of Toledo.
