There’s a whole new game in town with the opening of FanDuel Sportsbook at Blue Chip Casino, Hotel and Spa in Michigan City.
Taking over the area previously occupied by Blue Chip’s It’s Vegas Baby! nightclub and lounge, FanDuel features five betting windows, 13 video displays, 13 self-service IGT PlaySportsbetting kiosks, two sports tickers, and ample seating for sports bettors interested in watching the game from the Sportsbook.
“This will be one of four sportsbooks we will be opening in the next ten days across the Midwest, and this is the largest, the crown jewel” said David Straw, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Boyd Gaming, owners of Blue Chip Casino.
“This is a chance for us to introduce a brand new amenity to this market, something that our customers have reacted very positively towards,” he continued. “People are very excited to be able to come here and wager on their favorite sports teams. We think it’s going to drive quite a bit of new business here. It’s a big moment for us here at Blue Chip.”
On hand to help celebrate the grand opening was none other than 2005 Defensive Player of the Year and 8-time Pro-Bowler, Brian Urlacher, who also placed the first bet while there—a straight bet on Chicago (as three-point favorites) over Green Bay in Thursday night’s debut game. Urlacher wagered $54, in honor of his jersey number during his Chicago career.
“The big thing here for us is our partnership with FanDuel,” said Joel Giannetti, Director of Marketing at Blue Chip Casino, Hotel and Spa. “FanDuel has mostly been known for fantasy sports, but with them now getting into sportsbooks, it’s a great combination of fantasy sports moving over to sports betting. They have a huge, national brand, and it’s a great partnership for us here at Blue Chip and Boyd Gaming.”
Visitors to FanDuel will be able to bet on the full variety of sports events.
“Everything from cricket to MMA,” Giannetti said. “Football, basketball, anything. The full spectrum.”
Visitors to FanDuel at Blue Chip can relax and enjoy their favorite games on a variety of flat-panel TVs located around the sportsbook, as well as a huge video wall area, complete with comfortable leather armchairs. Immediately adjacent to FanDuel is The Game, Blue Chip’s sports bar, serving cold drinks and delicious food, making this a perfect spot for fanatics to gather.
Dan Trusty of La Porte was happy to be one of the very first visitors to FanDuel, and especially excited to see Brian Urlacher.
Trusty, wearing a Bears jersey, already had his team picked out.
“I’m betting on the Bears,” Trusty said.
When Urlacher was taking questions from the crowd, someone asked how he projected the Bears would do against the Packers in their season opener, he quipped, "I don't care, as long as they beat the Packers by 3 points." Noting that's what he needs for his bet to pay off.
