Adoption Event Provides Opportunity for Forever Homes

Adoption-Feb-2014-1Lakeshore PAWS held their first adoption event to showcase their new facility on Feb.22 in Valparaiso, Ind. The event was held from 10 a.m. to 1.pm. at 405 Elm St. in order to bring in the community and introduce them to the animals in hopes of finding them forever homes. Lakeshore PAWS’ next event will be held in March.

A potbellied pig named Ben was among the animals that were up for adoption as well as dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. Parents and children; seniors and singles enjoyed a fun-filled morning visiting with the animals and community members. Attendees were able to pet and interact with the animals and play with them in the new agility room. There were donuts and refreshments available, t-shirts for sale and applications for adoption as well as fostering.

We have six kids at home who are begging us for a dog and this gives us an opportunity to not only make our kids happy but save a life as well,” said Carl Arndt, an event attendee and Chesterton resident.

All of the animals are rescued or pulled from shelters where they were either sitting for a while or going to be euthanized. The animals are taken to a local veterinarian where they are examined and given behavioral tests before being made available for adoption by the public.

Adoption-Feb-2014-2Same-day adoptions were not completed at the event in order to safeguard all involved. Extensive background checks are done for all applicants to ensure that the match is right for both the animals and the potential forever family.

It’s great to see all the interest in the available pets,” stated Christine Banter, a Lakeshore PAWS volunteer. “It is our mission to find loving homes for all of the animals that come through PAWS,” she added.
