A Super Bowl Connection for Michigan City

A-Super-Bowl-Connection-for-Michigan-CityMichigan City High School was honored to be presented with a commemorative golden football from the National Football League on December 1st. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl, the NFL is providing golden footballs to all former pro players who played in Super Bowls, for them to present to their high schools. Michigan City Elston graduate Tom Nowatzke, class of 1961, is one of those players. By the time he finished his senior season at Elston, Tom had earned All-State and All-American honors. He went on to play for Indiana University where he was an All American, then turned pro – playing for the Detroit Lions and the Baltimore Colts. He scored a touchdown for Baltimore in Superbowl V. The NFL golden football that Tom presented to Michigan City High School is now permanently displayed by his photograph in Heritage Hall.
