Dear Community,
The safety and well-being of our community is the number one priority for all of us at Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA). As with the rest of the world, this health crisis has significantly impacted LCA’s operations, events and educational programming. We closed our doors to the public on March 14 and will remain closed until we are certain that reopening will pose no health risk to our employees or community.
LCA’s board and staff have been in continuous conversation (remotely), creating safety protocols and brainstorming fresh ways to serve our community. While our school outreach programming, in-house classes and learning tours have come to a halt, we have been challenged to invent new means to engage our audience. We have initiated a robust series of online and video programming that we are rolling out via social media and archiving on our website. Education Director Hannah Hammond-Hagman is working with our teaching artist team and local creative community to produce compelling video content including art project demos, read-a-louds, dance and music lessons and video tours of local artists’ studios. Our school and community partners are also engaging with our new online content.
We are also recording video tours of our current gallery exhibit, Round Hole, Square Peg, to share with the public, including a demonstration of the interpretive hands-on art project that would have been offered as part of a student learning tour of this exhibit and a video tour for adults led by curator, Lora Fosberg. Our entire staff is finding opportunities to serve our community with accessible, fun and inspiring ways to keep creativity and imagination at the forefront during these difficult times.
In 2019, LCA had a strong year financially, and we had started 2020 on an upward trajectory. While recognizing budgetary concerns and the impact COVID19 may have on our economy and fundraising overall, we are still optimistic about the future!
Thank you for being part of our growth. I am confident we can weather the future challenges together and will be even stronger for it.
Wishing you all good health and peace of mind!
Janet Bloch and the LCA Team
INFORMATION-Mission and Purpose:
Integrating art, education and community, Lubeznik Center for the Arts provides access to compelling exhibitions and programs that explore contemporary ideas. LCA serves as a hub for arts and culture for the region and is welcoming to everyone in our community.
LCA features three major exhibitions per year with corresponding educational programming as well as a wide variety of classes for children and adults. Approximately 1,800 children annually enjoy educational tours and onsite art making at LCA, while many more receive visual, literacy-based and performance art instruction through the outreach programs we offer in collaboration with area after school programs. Our educational and outreach programs produce consistently strong results and our services are in demand in other school districts and youth serving agencies.
