Robin Kohn has always loved to work. For 10 years she worked in the radio industry, which can have some pretty crazy hours. She now serves as the public relations director for the Michigan City Public Library and still logs a good number of hours.
“I just love working. The people I meet and work with make it a great experience,” Kohn said. “There is nothing bad about the library, we have a lot to offer to everyone. I have always liked being here, even before they hired me.”
Kohn has lived and worked in Michigan City her entire life and wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Michigan City just keeps growing and getting better,” Kohn said. “We have such a great community and people. I hope it continues to flourish.”
Kohn said the art scene in Michigan City is one of the best things about living there.
“Art is such an enhancement to our lives, it helps with the quality of life,” she said. “It’s such a fun aspect of life and we are not only promoting it to the adults but the kids as well. It’s a great feeling to help people promote their art.”
To help advance the arts and other positive community initiatives, Kohn is president
of the art committee in Michigan City, and also sits on the Junior Achievement
committee, an organization that helps teach children financial literacy.
“I love the community and want to do everything I can to help it keep growing the way it is,” she said. “It’s important to help make sure these kids understand how to be part of the community so they can succeed.”
Outside of work, Kohn stays very busy. She is a big fan of podcasts, especially those of the political or mystery genres. When the time comes, she is also ready to travel, and Alaska is the first place on her list. Kohn hopes that wherever she goes, she will always continue to grow and learn.
“I am always open to trying new things and to learning more,” Kohn said. “My secret dream would have to be recording books on tape. I think I have a pretty good voice and would love to have people listen to me.”
