A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight: Lisa Haislet

Lisa-HaisletBorn and raised in Lake County, Lisa Haislet didn't make her way into La Porte County until after she married her high school sweetheart, Eric. They quickly fell in love with the rolling back roads, orchards and open spaces, and have remained in La Porte County for the past twenty years, where they are raising their four children, ranging from ages seventeen to three. This year, they celebrated their twenty-second wedding anniversary and are still completely in love with the area.

Before her photography business, Haislet worked as a professional organizer, helping people to "let go" of the clutter that weighs them down. Having been taught from a young age that everything has a purpose, and what isn't used is passed on to someone else whose need is greater, this job was a perfect fit for her, until she opened her own photography business.

"My grandfather was an avid photographer who influenced me in many ways," Haislet said. "My dad bought me my first high end camera when I turned thirteen, and my mom instilled in me the importance of relationships with others as a measure of success. So, I took all of these things and made sure to bring them to my photography business."

With a business that is continually growing, and only just five years old, Haislet is always excited by the new opportunities brought to her and relationships formed through her work.

"Capturing the beautiful moments for others is not a job, but a privilege," Haislet said. "Every picture I take, I am seeing you through the eyes of your grandchildren... leaving a legacy of love, commitment, family, relationship... the moments of beauty."

In her spare time, she hosts and leads weekly MOMs In Prayer groups in her home, where a handful of moms come together to pray for children and schools. During the summer months, Haislet mentors a group of girls, encouraging them to grow deeper in their faith, delving into the issues that high school girls can face with honesty and transparency. They create dream boards and talking about goals they have for their lives.

"All of this sounds serious and heavy, but it rarely is because at the top of my list is laughing, having fun, midnight runs to Steak 'n' Shake, and building positive, long-lasting relationships," Haislet said.

In what remains of her spare time, Haislet enjoys date nights with her husband, movie nights with her kids, and spending time in nature to rejuvenate and heighten her creativity.

"I know without a doubt that when I am at the end of life, I don't want to be remembered as an awesome photographer but as someone who love well and lived a full life as a wife, mom, friend, and creative person," Haislet said.
