A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight: Krista Taschler

Krista Taschler puts family, health, and community at the top of her priority list. As the co-owner of both Healthy Life in La Porte and Stay Healthy in Michigan City along with her husband, Taschler is able to focus on all three of these things every day.

“There’s no place like home, I can tell you that,” Taschler said. She has lived in La Porte County her entire life and loves everything the region has to offer

“Family’s here, friends are here, businesses are here,” she said.

While Taschler and her husband Bob had always hoped to be business owners, they never imagined owning a business relating to health and wellness. After working in the automotive field for 25 years, Taschler decided to make a beneficial change to her life, leading them to open Healthy Life in June 2018.

“I wanted to be around the energy and the community that a nutrition club provided,” Taschler said.

The business serves healthy smoothies and juices.

She loves having her family involved in the business.

“My husband helps to keep me moving forward and on track when I get down on myself and having my kids in the business is really inspiring - just watching them change mentally and physically.”

“We’re still working on our own health journey,” she said. “Working on yourself every day, making someone else smile, contributing to the community, and focusing on healthy relationships are a few things that are important for me to feel happy and healthy.”

Motivation is a crucial factor in Taschler’s everyday life.

“I wake up every day knowing that I can change somebody else’s life for the better by helping them to become happier and healthier.”

It’s this inspiration that pushes her forward with ever-evolving ideas, such as her current Pay It Forward project. Taschler explained that they are accepting donations to provide a free shake and tea for healthcare workers, small business owners, and anyone else whose employment status has been affected by the COVID-19 shutdown. In addition to this, Taschler and her husband decided early on in their business venture to donate all of the tips collected at the front counter to a predetermined charity each month.

“I’m inspired by the community – period. I love seeing all the people that come in everyday, the relationships that have been created, friends that I’ve made, and most of all, giving back to the community.”
