A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight: Julie Gill

A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight: Julie Gill

Since 2015 Julie Gill has been the General Manager for Patrick’s Grille. Before stepping into the restaurant's managerial role; however, Gill spent 16 years in the hospitality field working at country clubs and casinos like Lincoln Hills Golf Club, Blue Chip Casino, Hotel and Spa, Pottawattomie Country Club, and Ameristar Casino.

“I have been with Patrick's Grille since October of 2015 as their general manager. Since we opened the restaurant, we have built a very successful catering business, and we are contracted to operate the food and beverage services for Sunset Grille at North Point Pavilion in Washington Park,” said Gill. “I enjoy getting to know our guests, especially in the catering end of things. I get to be part of everyone's special day. From weddings to birthday parties, baby and bridal showers, and funerals, we are always there to make it special.”

When Gill is not working for the Grille, she spends her time giving back to those in need. Gill and her husband donate their time to the Salvation Army. The Gills participate in a variety of volunteer projects like the school backpack program, giving out meals on Thanksgiving, helping lower income families shop in the local Salvation Army basement, Deserving Children, and Shop with a Cop.

Gill believes that all of her countless volunteer hours come from her parents' ideal of being involved in the community. Since she was a kid, Gill has had a place in the community and realized that it was a good feeling to help out someone less fortunate. No matter where she lived, Gill knew that giving back was the right thing to do.

“I have always been involved in my community wherever I have lived. I have been in Michigan City since 2010. Prior to being in Michigan City, I was in Ludington Michigan and did a lot of work with the Boy Scouts and local school system,” Gill said.

For as long as she could remember, Gill has been an advocate for volunteering. So when she started working at Patrick’s Grille, she knew that giving back should be a part of their business, and soon it became just that. Today, Patrick’s Grille donates to various non-profits like Toys for Tots and sponsors various organizations like Friendship Botanic Gardens, Family Advocates, and MCPD (Michigan City Police Department) Citizens Academy.

To further their hospitality, Patrick’s Grille takes Toys for Tots donations anytime and, in return, gives donating customers a complimentary appetizer. The business also prepares and delivers meals to Stepping Stone Shelter for Women every third Tuesday, which Gill personally delivers. Out of all the wonderful things Gill has been a part of while working at the Grille, her favorite part is the people.

“I have met so many wonderful people through my years of serving and wouldn't change that for anything,” said Gill.

When Gill isn’t giving back to those in need or helping serve the community amazing dishes, she spends her time with her husband or visiting her family of five. This fall, the Gills plan to visit their children and grandchildren in Hawaii, something they’re more than excited for. Gill also enjoys golf, a good shopping spree, cooking, her two dogs, country music, and Bon Jovi.
