DaveWoodsonYou see his comments on the LaPorteCountyLife Facebook page; you see him tweet away on Twitter; and he’s an active Linkedin participant. He leaves his mark all over social media flora and fauna. Dave Woodson is this week’s A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight.

Woodson was born in La Porte and raised in Springfield Township. He attended Landmark Christian Acadamy, then La Porte High School. After he graduated from high school, Woodson went to Purdue North Central where he pursued his bachelor’s degree in Communications, and minors in English and Management. He finished up his college career at Purdue’s main campus in West Lafayette.

From there, Woodson obtained a job in Northern Illinois as a construction manager for a company called Saddlebrook Farms. After working there for a few years, he decided it was time to come back home to La Porte. He became an outside sales representative for PPG Industries.

Woodson is a family man. He met his wife, Mary, at church. They got married in 1999, and now they live in Michigan City with their daughter, Abby.

“We love living in Michigan City,” Woodson said. “Our family is here, and there are a lot of wonderful places close by like the beach, the Uptown Arts District, and the Lubeznik Center.”

On top of a enjoying his living location, Woodson enjoys his jobs. He is a realtor for Prime Real Estate, which is located in Valparaiso. Also, he is the owner of Getunoticed.com, a website dedicated to teaching people about social media and utilizing to its fullest potential. He speaks at many real estate

“I’ve always enjoyed real estate. The best part is the marketing –it’s like a hobby of mine,” Woodson said. “I got back into real estate out of necessity. I saw the value in it years ago and I knew that this is the path that I needed to take. It’s the most fun thing I’ve ever done!”

Woodson gets involved in the community by volunteering at his church and being very vocal through social media outlets –so vocal in fact, that he was voted “Most Influential Social Media Dude in Indiana” in 2010 at the Indiana Social Media Summit and SMackdown.

“I help out where I can, I don’t subscribe to one group,” Woodson said.

In his free time, Woodson spends as much time as he can with his family. He also works out and is a faithful fan to Da Bears. In the future he hopes to increase his sales in real estate, remain a leader in NWI and in social media, and keep sharing his opinion with the world. Here’s a cool goal that Woodson has set for himself: when his daughter goes to college, Woodson says he’s going to drop her off at school and keep driving until he gets to someplace warm and not come back until the Spring.

“I do all my stuff online, so I can go anywhere and do what I love.” Woodson said.

That’s smart. Are there any other tidbits of smartness that he’d like to share?

“An elderly Italian guy that I worked for at Saddlebrook Farms said to me, ‘Get paid in education first and the money will come later’,” Woodson said. “He paid me with a great experience. To me, the most important thing I can share is: find something that you like to do and do it. If you don’t, you’re going to have a life of misery ahead. Someone finds value in what you do. Also, it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.”
