A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight: Blake Murray

The imagination, drive and passion of Blake Murray, co-founder and owner of Burn ‘Em Brewing, is limitless. He found his niche early in life and loved the energy and fun of working in a restaurant. When he and his twin brother, Steve, started brewing beer in the kitchen at home, his dream took flight.

In 2013, he helped start the popular Burn ‘Em Brewery in Michigan City, which has evolved to become a particularly respected and popular craft brewery in the Region. People come from all over to enjoy the fine beers and creative atmosphere.

The brewery has a unique style reflecting the love and dedication Murray put into this business. For six years, Burn ‘Em Brewery grew in fame, and Murray is ready for his next adventure.

“It’s always been a goal to open something bigger,” Murray said.

Murray will run the new restaurant that Burn ‘Em Brewery is bringing to La Porte. This restaurant, Bare Bones Gastropub, is set to open soon. Murray is an excellent chef and looks forward to sharing his love of food with the world. He plans to offer a variety of seasonal options.

“It’ll go beyond American food,” Murray said. “I like all kinds of food, so I don’t mind exploring new things.”

As a La Porte resident, Murray is proud to bring this prolific new option to the community. Murray started in restaurants and says that he will pay it forward, perhaps giving a young person their first job.

“We want to bring the community up and bring life into town,” Murray said. “We want to offer employment opportunities and buy from local farms and other breweries.”

The support of Murray’s wife, Emily, and his family and friends fuel him to keep dreaming big, even on tough days. He learned that owning a business takes dedication, patience, and the ability to welcome change.

“I learned to not take everything too seriously and have fun with it,” Murray said. “We started out having fun, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
