A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight: Angelica Hickey

Ang HickeyAmbition is an understatement when it comes to Angelica Hickey, a recent La Porte High School graduate. Graduating high school at the age of 16 may seem like a big accomplishment, but she has plans far more aspiring.

Hickey graduated from La Porte High School in 2014 at the age of 16 with academic honors as well as being a part of National Honor Society and Girl Reserves. Hickey was a part of her high school's dance team during her freshman and sophomore year as well. Being the typical age of a sophomore while taking junior and senior classes, Hickey studied hard to get ahead of the game.

During her junior year of high school, Hickey took several advanced placement courses as well as summer classes in order to graduate with the senior class.

"It was pretty difficult to take advanced classes throughout my high school career but my hard work paid off. I'm a freshman in college at age 16 which is a very unique thing," Hickey said.

After applying to several colleges around the area, Hickey finally decided to attend Valparaiso University. She is currently enrolled there and is double majoring in Chemistry and Biology. On top of all of her college work, she is also employed as a hostess at Shoreline Brewery in Michigan City, Indiana. Hickey hopes to one day be a dermatologist.

In Hickey's free time, she loves to spend time with her friends and family, go longboarding, paddle boarding and even surf.

"My entire life I have wanted to have a career in the medical field. It's amazing what they can do for others. I have always wanted to find a great way to give back to those in need, and giving medical attention to those who need it is a fantastic way to go," Hickey said.
