“A Celebration of Women in the Arts” Friday August 15, 5.30 pm at the Uptown Center for Performing Arts, Michigan City

2014-Celebration-of-Women-in-the-artsHonorary Event Committee members Agnes Meer, Ann Dahm, Barbara Eason-Watkins, Jennifer Heath, Linda Hough, Judy Jacobi, Gerry Jones, Angela Nelson Deuitch, Stephanie Oberlie, and Carolyn Saxton invite you to join the members of the year-old Michigan City Commission for Women to a fundraiser, “A Celebration of Women in the Arts,” on Friday, August 15, 5:30 PM at the Uptown Center for the Performing Arts at 903 Franklin Street in Michigan City. The Commission, an advocate for women and their families, provides positive solutions while working within government and the community.

Enjoy this celebration featuring visual and performing arts by some of Northwest Indiana’s most promising, and prominent, female artists while raising funds for this worthy cause. Award-winning Chicago actress Donna Blue Lachman auctions off some specialty items including a unique Chicago weekend.

Doors open at 5:30, and you can sip creative cocktails from the cash bar and nibble tasty hors d’oeuvres and sweets provided by local restaurants while perusing the work of local women artists curated by Southern Shore Art Association president, Anneke Dekker. Food donors are A.K. The performance begins at 6:30 with MC Gerry Jones and features local singers Amy Percifield and Deb Whitlow, Lady Sax® of Gary IN who is in high demand with her one-woman show but looks forward to collaborating with entertainers, especially female, in order to support fundraisers addressing women’s needs and causes. Also on stage are actors Dani Lane, Sally Mason, and Mary McPherson in a scene from the recently sold-out show, “Mixed Nuts,” at the Acorn Theater. A rousing finale by the Soul Steppers of Michigan City completes the entertainment portion of the evening.
