59ers Still on Top; Munster Now 2nd in Latest RSN Football Poll

rsn-logoWin their win at Merrillville last Friday, it's no surprise that Andrean High School retains their No. 1 ranking in the latest Top Ten list released by the Region Sports Network on Tuesday. But with the Pirates' home loss in the "Battle of Broadway," a new No. 2 has emerged, and it's Munster.

"The Mustangs up this high in the basketball poll? Nearly a certainty. An occasional appearance in this area in the baseball poll? Not surprising at all. But, it’s been a long time since the gridiron version of the Mustangs have been up with the Region elite, and there’s no doubt they deserve this lofty status in 2014 after sweeping the DAC portion of their schedule," the RSN wrote on the Mustangs, who are coming off a victory over Chesterton in their home opener and will visit Highland on Friday seeking a 3-0 start.

Crown Point, Merrillville and Morton - who won an overtime thriller over now No. 10 Lowell last week - round out the RSN's top five.

Lake Central, who will play Portage at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday, comes in at No. 6 after a lopsided win at East Chicago Central. La Porte, by all early indicators the most improved team in the region, is No. 7 after shutting out Hobart in a game that was suspended one-day after storms rocked the region on Friday.

Whiting, Michigan City and Lowell round out the top ten.
