Dating back to as early as 1500 BC, the trumpet is one of the oldest instruments in mankind's repertoire, used primarily for signaling. However, it was not until the late Middle Ages, early Renaissance that the instrument became advanced enough to be used for music. On April 20th, Rich Ridenour and his son Brandon Ridenour, along with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, will show you precisely how musical the modern trumpet can be. The concert will feature great songs such as John Lennon's Eleanor Rigby, the smooth jazz of Henry Mancini's Pink Panther, and George Gershwin's ever-popular Rhapsody in Blue.

La-Porte-Pops-40th-Spring-2Pianist Rich Ridenour has established a successful career performing classical piano pieces as well as American ragtime, jazz, and rock & roll. He has toured the country with recent performances in the cities of Jacksonville, Temple, Grand Rapids, Tucson, Evansville, Charleston, WV, Elgin, Owensboro, and the Bravissimo Festival of Guatemala City. In 2009, he performed in 52 concerts across the country!

When he is not touring, Rich teaches young music students in the Jacksonville-area, public schools that do not provide musical instrument instruction for kids. He also has taught piano at Aquinas College, Grand Valley State University, Calvin College and Western Michigan University. His interest in assisting with the development of musically aspiring youth has led him to co-found the Grand Rapids Musicians' League, develop Camp Gilmore, Keys Fest and other educational piano programs for public schools and juvenile centers.

Brandon Ridenour, like his father, has also taken an interest in music, learning piano at the age of five and the trumpet at the age of nine. He became the youngest member of the Canadian Brass at the age of 20. Over the years he has performed as a soloist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Brass Band of Battle Creek, Ensemble ACJW, the New Juilliard Ensemble, Grand Rapids Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, and the American Academy of Conducting Orchestra at the Aspen Music Festival. Most recently he performed for the 100th anniversary celebration of Carnegie Hall. In addition to his performance career, Brandon has also composed and arranged more than 70 scores, several of which feature Canadian Brass on recordings and in concert.

The Father-Son Ridenour Duo are delightful and witty performers you will not want to miss. Come join the LCSO for an evening of fun at the La Porte County Civic Auditorium and let the music invade your heart!
