Third Annual Michigan City Beaches & Blueways Cleanup

Trail Creek Watershed logoDuring this event, volunteer organizations from throughout Northwest Indiana will converge on Michigan City to clean up and beautify the beaches and blueways.

Perhaps you participated in our Trail Creek Fun Float last month and noticed some trash and junk that didn't belong. Well, here's your chance to make a difference! Last year, we helped clean up an entire dump truck full of garbage.

We at the Northwest Indiana Paddling Association want to do our part so we are organizing a volunteer clean up along Trail Creek. In 2010, NWIPA adopted Trail Creek through the Hoosier River Watch Adopt-A-River photo2program. We have surveyed areas along Trail Creek and Lake Michigan and found a great deal of garbage in need of removal ranging from bottles and cans to dozens of tires. Beach and Blueway cleanups are planned throughout the Michigan City public access sites along Trail Creek and at the Washington Park Beach by many of our partners.

Volunteering for one morning this summer will make a huge difference in the cleanliness of your local waterway.

Where:
Washington Park Beach Clean-up: For those wishing to help cleanup Michigan City's Washington Park Beach, meet at 9 a.m. at the Washington Park Beach sign up table.

What do I Bring?
Please bring your canoe or kayak, gloves, PFD, sturdy closed toe shoes, drinking water and sunscreen. For those without boats wishing to participate, please contact us before the event. There will be plenty of opportunities to volunteer.

Voyageur Canoe Public Paddle!
Following the cleanup, Wilderness Inquiry will be onsite at Washington Park to offer free paddles onboard their 24' Voyageur Canoes.

If you are interested in participating or have questions, please contact Dan Plath at dplath@gmail.com or (219) 871-9559.

We will also need several volunteers to help us plan and organize the event. Please contact us if you are interested. If you know someone that might be interested in clean parks and waterways, but might not have received this email, please forward to them.

We hope to be able to make a major dent in cleaning up Trail Creek by removing garbage in the water trail that we all use. Thanks everyone so much!
