24th Annual Taste of La Lumiere Offers Exciting Dishes for La Porte Residents

LaLumiereTaste1La Lumiere is a small college preparatory private school located in Northwest Indiana near La Porte. Every year in early April, there is a food festival event called the Taste of La Lumiere. Many people come to this event where they can socialize and eat interesting exotic food from around the world.

April 10th, 2015 was the 24th annual Taste of La Lumiere. The main coordinator of the event, Dr. Mariam Nasidi, was sick in the hospital so much of the event was dedicated to her and to help her recovery. Michael Kennedy, the headmaster, stated that he wanted this event to be the best for her. An afghan raffle was initiated in the middle of the Taste where people bought raffle tickets to win an afghan.

The gym was filled with people from all over Northwest Indiana to come try out all the different kinds of food. Each side of the gymnasium was dedicated to either Africa, Asia, Europe, or the Americas.

A regular at the Taste, a La Lumiere teacher named Jaime Frankle, talked about the popularity of the food dishes.

LaLumiereTaste2She said, “Most people like to go after the desserts like the cannoli and the crepes. The interesting thing about the Taste is that everything changes every year depending on the student body.”

A La Lumiere freshman named Jack Breitowich made matza with chocolate, a popular dish during Passover, was also a big hit at the Taste. He said that he had a great time.

The La Lumiere Taste is an event that happens every year in the second week of April at the Marsch Gymnasium at La Lumiere School. The tickets are $20 each online, $25 at the door, $60 for families, $15 for senior citizens, and $5 for children.
