21 Great Ways to Make the Most of a Snowy Day!

barby-winter-day-1Snow is falling...again. The kids are at home and looking for something to do. What do you do to keep them entertained? We are here to help! Here are some great things that you can do with your kids, friends, co-workers, and anyone else looking to escape the winter doldrums.

1. Get crafty! Use strong glue to attach a plastic toy to the inside of a jar lid, then add baby oil and glitter for a homemade snow globe.

2. Hollow out an orange and fill the peel with seeds to feed the birds. You get a healthy snack and so do they!

3. Add food coloring to a full bottle of bubble liquid, head outside, and color the snow with each bubble burst! You can do the same thing with spray bottles and get creative with some graffiti. Did you know that below 32 degrees bubbles will freeze and shatter when they hit the ground? :)

4. Freeze colored water into ice cubes, then hide them around your yard for a scavenger hunt with the kiddies.

5. Build a fort! Forts are awesome!

6. Get some exercise. Shoveling snow burns major calories so shovel the walk, then tackle the driveway, then go help your elderly neighbor with their walks and driveways.

7. Bake! Make some cookies, brownies, pies...then give them to people who shoveled your walkway or driveway.

8. Have a hot cocoa tasting. Create different varieties of the sweet drink and share with your friends and family. Pair with some fresh baked goods that you baked from idea #7.

9. Clean. You aren't going anywhere so get productive and tidy up your home!

10. Make snow angels. You're never too old for a snow angel.

11. Push all of the snow in your yard into a hill, pack it down and shape it into an epic sledding ramp for the kiddos.

12. If you have a camera, take some lovely pictures of the snow as it falls or when it blankets the landscape.

13. Break out the sleds, toboggans, skis, and get outside.

14. Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, make a Valentine's card for your sweetheart.

15. Have an indoor picnic.

16. Fill balloons with colored water, freeze, remove the balloon, and you have colored glass orbs that you can have as temporary decorations!

17. Too cold for the kids outside? Bring the snow to them! Fill the kitchen sink, bathtub, or plastic tote with snow and let them play indoors. When the snow melts, toss the water out!

18. Place a black sheet of paper into a freezer until it's cold, then take it outside and use a magnifying glass to view snowflakes that land on the paper.

19. Look for animal tracks in freshly fallen snow and try to identify what animal made them with your kids!

20. Have a snowball fight!

21. Make tomato soup and grilled cheese combos. The PERFECT winter meal.
