Student Spotlight: Edmund Paul Castle III
Don’t let the long name intimidate you! Eddie is really just a big ball of humor. Eddie is a senior at South Central this year. He is involved in a large number of activities in school and somehow manages to keep his head on completely straight.
Eddie is active in Drama Club, football, Thespian Society, track, as well as a number of other things. Eddie was even elected to be the senior class president. When Eddie isn’t doing extracurriculars, he likes to talk to his amazing girlfriend, play video games, and make hilarious videos for his classes. Eddie intends to go to college to continue with performing arts and possibly direct one day.
Recently, Eddie has had to juggle being the football team’s kicker as well as the lead in the musical. He would constantly switch between the two practices and somehow be able to dive right in. Eddie puts his mind to everything he does and proves himself to be a wonderful role model to all who meet him. All of the underclassmen boys in drama club have said how much they wanted to be “the next Eddie” at least once.
Drama member Isaac Shaffer said, “Eddie is very positive. He is always smiling and having fun with everything he is doing. He can always cheer you up or make you laugh. Eddie is an inspiration to me to see everything good in life, even when it’s hard. He’s a great friend and I couldn’t be more proud of everything he’s accomplished.”
Make sure to come see this amazing boy in Footloose as well as football games and track meets. Good luck Eddie!

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Barnes
Barnes, Barbara, Cort, Teacher: all nicknames of South Central’s favorite educator, Mrs. Barnes. This beloved woman is one of South Central’s english teachers, as well as the theater director. Mrs. Barnes not only helps the minds of teens grow, but she also is a source of support for them. She avidly checks in with students who are willing to open up to her and give them advice on behalf of a teacher, adult, friend, and parent.
Mrs. Barnes is also a very talented actress and singer. She passes on experiences and tricks she has learned throughout the years to each and every aspiring actor at South Central. She has also increased the size of the school’s drama department as well as audience size.
Barnes makes sure that everyone knows drama isn’t the stereotypical “nerd activity” and that there is a place for everyone in theater. It is more about acceptance and family than singing and dancing.
One of Barnes’ drama students, Emily Ames, said, “I like how Mrs. Barnes teaches us so much more than just theater. She teaches us how to get out of our comfort zones in an environment that is safe. I love that she teaches us to be better people and helps us to befriend people we've never even talked to. And she does all of this while being an authority figure, but also being our friend at the same time. I'd trust her with my life, and I can honestly say that she is the best teacher I have ever had.”
Long term student, Zoe Auskalnis, claims that Mrs. Barnes is “da bomb.” It’s safe to say Mrs. Barnes is a wonderful role model for each and every student she has ever encountered.
