15th Annual Sunflower Fair Coming to Downtown La Porte

SunflowersThe 15th Annual Sunflower Fair is returning to downtown La Porte on September 21, 2013. The celebration of Fall and full grown sunflowers begins at 8am that day with the Red Cross 5K Fun Run and Health Walk, over 100 arts, crafts and nonprofit vendors, the Rumely Art Show, and much more.

The Fair also features live entertainment, community nonprofit food vendors, kid rides, a classic car show, rib cook off, and sunflower contests, taking place all along Michigan Avenue and Lincolnway in historic downtown La Porte. Downtown businesses also join in on the celebration with specials and sunflower-inspired artwork and menu items.

Contests fuel the fun of the day with the rib cook off, the La Porte Library Coloring Contest and of course Sunflower Contests which include judging based on the Tallest Sunflower Plant, Largest Sunflower Head (circumference), Heaviest Sunflower Head, Sunflower stalk with the most blossoms and The Garden with Most Sunflowers (picture required).

The entertainment taking place that day includes performances by Chris “Mo” Meadows, Saucy Birds, Nickel and Dime, Max Weed and Paradox. Visitors can try and array of food from area nonprofits including the LaPorte Service League Port-a-Pit sale and the Rotary Corn on the Cob sale. The Lions Club also runs a free train ride throughout the Fair.
