10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Yoga in the Park, Fun in the Sun, and Civil War Days


Each week we will be bringing you 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana over the weekend, so you are never without something to do! Basic Yoga Poses will be taught during this Friday’s “Porter Regional Hospital Fit Friday” at Central Park Plaza, including warm up poses and gentle stretches. Other poses will focus on standing, stability and balance, ending with a cool down and relaxation practice.

Join Fred Astaire Valparaiso for a night of Salsa on Friday, June 21st. The lesson will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, held at El Salto Valparaiso, 3530 Calumet Ave. Following the lesson will be a night of live music!

Mark your calendar for this fun family health and cancer awareness event hosted by the Foundation For Molecular Medicine and sponsored by Franciscan Alliance. Bring your family and friends with you on Sunday June 23, 2013 to the Indiana Dunes State Park for a fun-filled day at the beach. The Lakeshore 12-20 is an event not to be missed!

Annual Polish Fest to Take Place This Weekend
Sacred Heart's Annual Polish Fest takes place June 21-23, at the corner of Bach and Pulaski. Come join us for food, games, rides, raffles, live entertainment, and a beer garden! Bingo is back and there will be a giant rummage sale tent!

Saturday, June 22, 2013 is the Franciscan Alliance Firecracker 5k. Race starts at 7:30 a.m. - All participants must sign race day waiver; arrive early! The 5K (3.1 mile) course is a flat tour through the neighborhood adjacent to Omni Health & Fitness - Chesterton.

Chalk the Walk, a community family-friendly event, will be held on Saturday, June 22 at the Porter County Courthouse square in downtown Valparaiso. Beginning at 8 am and going until 1 pm, over 100 artists of all ages and skill levels will be creating artwork on the sidewalk with brightly colored pastel chalk.

Civil War Days Are Coming!
The Civil War re-enactment for 2013 is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23 at the La Porte County Historical Society Museum. This outdoor event features Civil War re-enactors encamped with all the trappings of the 1860’s. Demonstrations of camp life including crafts, cooking over an open fire, needlework, and a blacksmith will be on hand.

Lakeshore PAWS pets will be available for adoption at an adoption event held in Portage on Saturday, June 22. The public is invited to meet the dogs of various ages and breeds available for adoption from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Hobart Water Awareness Festival offers a free day of family fun, games and activities, and a great time exploring beautiful Deep River. The paddle will begin at the Rugby Field across from Festival Park and end at Riverview Park in Lake Station, 3.5 miles downstream.

18th Annual La Porte County Relay For Life
Celebrating its 18th year in La Porte County, Relay For Life is the county's largest event celebrating, remembering and fighting back against cancer. This event is open to the public and by having the community attend, you can buy dinner or lunch, play some games, bounce in a inflatable house, watch the LaPorte firemen against the Michigan City firemen in a tug-of-war, decorate a Luminaria bag in honor of someone you love, and most of all -- make a difference in the community.
