10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Triathlon, Cemetery Tour, and Dance Open House


Each week we will be bringing you 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana over the weekend, so you are never without something to do! This weekend a triathlon and duathlon, an art walk, a motorcycle ride, a festival, a cemetery tour, a panoramic celebration, an art class, a pet fair, a baseball event, a dance open house, and more are all on tap for a fun weekend in Northwest Indiana!

The 5th Annual City by the Lake Triathlon and new Duathlon will be held this Friday, August 9th and Saturday, August 10th in Michigan City. The race, which includes a swim, bike, run (triathlon) or a beach run, bike, run (duathlon) will take place at Washington Park, along Lake Michigan.

2nd Saturdays Brings Art to Downtown
2nd Saturdays return for the month of August in Downtown La Porte August 10th from 5pm to 7pm with the Art Walk. Each month, Downtown La Porte businesses stay open late and celebrate community and a fun theme for all to enjoy.

Humane Society to Host Cruise Run
The Teamster Horsemen Motorcycle Association, Indiana Chapter 25 will be sponsoring their 7th Annual Charity Run in support of the Humane Society Calumet Area. There will be music, raffle, door prizes, and a 50/50. All proceeds of the event will benefit the shelter!

HannaFest is coming Aug. 9 and 10. HannaFest celebrates the culture and history of the Hanna community. Community Bingo, a beer garden, lots of food, arts and crafts, kid activities, live entertainment, and more!

2nd Annual Memorial Gardens Cemetery Tour
On Saturday, August 10, at 1:00 p.m., the 2nd Annual Memorial Gardens Cemetery Tour will be held on the grounds of the La Porte County Historical Society Museum. Reenactors will offer as a first-person presentation biographical information about these individuals—interesting facts about the life and activities of each at a specific time in their lives.

Chesterton Panoramic Commemoration in Downtown Chesterton
The public is invited to join Westchester Township History Museum staff in commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first panoramic photograph of downtown Chesterton. Line the sidewalks along the intersection of Calumet and Broadway as Dan Bruhn takes a new panoramic photo from the northwest corner of Thomas Centennial Park on Friday, August 9, at 3 p.m. and become a part of history.

August 10 and 11 will feature a Mosaic Tile Stepping Stone class for adults and teens. Participants create stepping stones for a garden using colored mosaic tiles, cement, and grout. Instructor will assist students in designing a stepping stone that can be left out all year.

Pet Network to Host Paws in Paradise Walk-a-thon and Pet Fair
Second Chance 4 Pets Network will sponsor a Paws in Paradise Walk-a-thon and Pet Fair on Saturday, August 10. The pet fair will include a pet blessing (10:15 a.m.), vendors, animal rescues, K-9 demonstrations, food, merchandise, door prizes, and pet contests and games. Music will be provided by Jambulance.

The Cal Ripken Major/60 World Series brings together 10 12U teams. Of the 10 teams, eight are regional champions. Games will be played Friday, Aug. 9, through Friday, Aug. 16, at the Hammond Optimist Youth Sports Complex.

South Shore Dance Alliance to Host Summer Intensive Performance Fall Open House
The South Shore Dance Alliance announces two free performances Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10, featuring their summer intesive students. The performances will showcase students and choreography from the SSDA six week summer training program. The event will also include an open house to introduce SSDA instructors, tour the studios, learn about junior and senior performance company audition processes, and register for fall classes.
