The cities throughout Northwest Indiana are prepping for summer. With summer break just around the corner, this weekend is full of fun activities for the entire family to enjoy outside and what says summer more than ice cream? The Schererville Party in the Park event is all about Dairy! From cows to goats, a Friday night full of milkshakes and ice cream is the perfect start to a great weekend. Saturday support local organizations with a 5k Run and dog walk, watch City of Whiting play softball, and then have join the Bonner Senior Center residents for dinner. The Valpo theaters, Memorial Opera House and Chicago Street, are opening their new shows, and the entire family are welcome to learn what it takes to be an Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s fire crew! Let’s start the countdown to summer!

Schererville Party in the Park: Dairy Day!
Cows, Goats, and Chickens, Oh My! Oh and Ice Cream! This is the third installment of our Party in the Park series, called, Dairy Day in the Park! This party focuses around the pleasures, joys, and excitement of dairy. The Schererville Parks Department can't get enough of all things dairy! If you don't like dairy, no problem, all things non-dairy will be there too.
5k and 1 Mile Walk to Support Valpo K-9 Program
The Valparaiso Police Department’s K-9 unit works to create a safer environment for all members of the community. In order to successfully operate and sustain this unit, the Valparaiso Police Department needs the support of the citizens. The event “5K-9 Guardians of the Night Run/Walk” will be held on Friday, May 19th to raise funds for the Valparaiso K-9 Unit. There will be a 5k run and a 1 mile dog walk held in Central park in downtown Valpo!
Michigan City Area Schools 2017 Glow Event
Join us on Friday, May 19th at the MCHS track for a glow event to benefit Joy School!! We will walk or run the track for 30 minutes. Earn a glow bracelet each lap and see how many you can get before time is up! After the run, there will be a colorful glow finale!
“Incorruptible” Comes to Chicago Street Theater
Chicago Street Theatre has plenty for people to laugh about May 19 through June 3 with the run of Michael Hollinger's irreverent farce, Incorruptible. Set in Priseaux, France in 1250 AD, the comedy tells the story of an abby of desperate monks whose patron saint, Foy, hasn't worked a miracle in thirteen years. With the rivers flooding, sick cows and no pilgrims making donations, the Dark Ages have never seemed so dark.
United Way of La Porte County Dodgeball Challenge
Join us on Saturday, May 20th 2017 from 10 a.m - 2 p.m for our 8th Annual Dodgeball Challenge. Teams of eight will compete for the title down to the last player standing! General admission is free, so come cheer on your favorite team!
Junior Wildland Firefighter
Meet the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s fire crew and learn about their jobs and equipment. After this hands-on program, children will receive their very own Junior Wildland Firefighter activity book and patch. The firefighters will be at West beach in Portage.
Spring out to Sunset Festival
Porter County Parks & Recreation will be celebrating Spring once again with our Spring Out to Sunset Festival at Sunset Hill Farm Park. The Festival will feature the Sunset Hill Colonels playing their first home field old-fashioned baseball game. There will be food vendors, a beer garden, music, games, laser ball, pony rides, archery, crafts, inflatables, and face painting. We will also be announcing the winners of our Sunset Hill American Homebrew Competition.
Bonner Senior Center Spaghetti Dinner
The Bonner Senior Center Ways & Means Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 20th from 4-7 p.m. This fundraiser is open to the public. Adults will be charged $8 and children 5 and under are free.
City of Whiting's Battin’ for Boobies Fundraiser Softball Game
Support this year’s softball teams as they battle it out to raise money for Breast Cancer research. Game One will start at 12:30 p.m, with the Region Signs/Center Lounge vs People’s Bank and Game Two, will start at 1:30 with the Whiting Police/Fire Department vs the Whiting YMCA. The championship game will be at 3:00 p.m. Spectators and fans are welcome to come cheer them on for free!
This is My Brave Chicagoland
The Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theatre Foundation is proud to host the 2017 This is My Brave Chicagoland live event. This is My Brave is a live storytelling event where real people tell real stories about living with or loving someone with mental illness. Billed as #StorytellingSavesLives, This is My Brave seeks to remove the stigma surrounding mental illness, open a dialog, and create opportunities for people to #LiveBrave and thoughtfully engage around the topic of mental health.
