It's March already, folks. The snow is fighting to stay but Spring is making its presents known in the forming buds in the trees and in the daylight that lingers longer. Savor the South Shore
Get in on the most delicious event in the region! The 2nd annual “Savor the South Shore” promotion is going on from February 22 to March 6, 2016, select region restaurants will be offering specially priced lunch and dinner menus for their guests’ dining pleasure. That’s 14 days of food fun, two weeks of dining delights, and hours and hours of extra excellent eating.

Wide Open Mic at Lubeznik Center for the Arts
Lubeznik Center for the Arts will present "Wide Open Mic" hosted by Tim Rounds during the First Friday art walk. LCA's open mic provides a supportive atmosphere for artists to go public with their work. Show your support for local poets, musicians, and rappers as they take the stage at LCA. Registration to perform is full, however those who are interested can visit lubeznikcenter.org to be put on the waiting list. Admission is free and cash bar. Enjoy light bites catered by Shoreline Brewery. 

Chicago Street Theatre Presents "Nancy Drew: Girl Detective"
Chicago Street Theatre continues its 61st season with a Family Presentation that takes audiences back to the 1950's and the exciting world of Nancy Drew: Girl Detective running March 4 through March 13.The play, directed by Kari-Anne Innes, is based on the bestselling book series by Carolyn Keene and adapted by Marisha Chamberlain. Fans of the teenage super sleuth will find that this faithful stage version brilliantly captures the spirit and fun of Keene's 39th book in the series - The Clue of the Dancing Puppet which was originally published in 1962. 

VU Public Astronomy Programs
The physics and astronomy department at Valparaiso University continues its series of public astronomy programs for spring 2016. Each evening will include either a telescope viewing on clear nights, carried out with the Valparaiso University computer-controlled telescope, or a constellation program on cloudy nights. The public is also invited to attend a SARA telescope observing, featuring a remote viewing from Chile or Arizona, and a special public lecture by Timothy Beers of Notre Dame University titled “Galactic Archaeology — The Assembly of the Milky Way based on the First Age of the Galactic Halo.” 

LaPorte County 4-H Clover Crop
All area scrapbookers are invited to attend the “4-H Clover Crop” sponsored by LaPorte County 4-H on Saturday, March 5 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds. The $25.00 fee ($30.00 after February 5) includes table space, breakfast, lunch, contests, prizes, and goodie bags. There will also be classes, make ‘n takes, a silent auction, and vendors on site. All proceeds will go toward the LaPorte County 4-H endowment fund. 

Antique & Collectibles Show: Treasures of the Past

Theatre at the Center Presents Alfred Hitchcock's 39 Steps
A hit on Broadway and in London's West End, the thrilling comedy, Alfred Hitchcock's "The 39 Steps" kick starts Theatre at the Center's 26th season beginning February 18 and continuing through March 20, 2016. This comedic spoof offers non-stop action and features four actors playing more than 150 different characters. The show is filled with an incredible series of lightning fast costume changes that make for a great deal of laughter and excitement. 

Eli Strong Shave-a-Thon
If you've been around the Portage Fire department lately, you've probably seen some of us looking rather shaggy and hairy! While some of us look pretty funny, it is all for a great cause. What began as a joke, turned into an endeavor to raise money for a young boy named Eli who is battling Stage IV Medulloblastoma. March 6th of 2016, we are having a St. Baldrick's event at the Portage Fire Department Station 1. Many of us began growing our hair back in March, with the goal of letting it grow for a full year! I can tell you, it's easier said than done, on some days! 

Beware Of The Klowns - Indiana Premiere
The Indiana premiere of the horror/comedy film, "Beware Of The Klowns". Posters will be available to buy. Cast and crew of the film will receive free admission. Ticket prices will be $6. This film is unrated and contains violence, gore, nudity, and strong language as well as some disturbing imagery.
