The 6th annual Kent's Run 5K will be held on Saturday May 25, 2013 at Boone Grove Middle School. Packet pick up begins at 7:00 a.m. in the gymnasium and the race kicks off at 8 a.m. This year's event is a part of the Calumet Region Striders Gold Cup Series. Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate.
Chicago Street Theatre Stages Classic Arthur Miller Play
Chicago Street Theatre will unveil its production of A View from the Bridge, by Arthur Miller, this week. The play is set in Brooklyn, New York, in the 1950s. The central character, Eddie, is a longshoreman whose wife’s Italian cousins arrive in America and move into Eddie’s home. As the story develops, one of these immigrants falls in love with Eddie’s niece. Eddie becomes violently opposed to the relationship, and the stage is set for an intense and tragic drama.

The Chicago White Sox will be hosting a Northwest Indiana Sox Fan Night on Friday, May 24. The game begins at 7:10, and will be against the Miami Marlins. During the game, local Northwest Indiana businesses will be set-up at the Festival on the Plaza, offering samples, coupons and information. The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority will also be present during the game to provide information on attractions and events in Northwest Indiana.

For all of the Arrested Development fans out there (which, frankly, should be all of you), Blackbird Café is celebrating the return of the show for its fourth season on May 26th with specialty drinks this week! The celebration will commence on May 26th, with a “Never Nude Day”! Come dressed in your cutoff shorts and get a free small drink with purchase.
Robbinhurst Memorial Day Weekend
We are grilling hot dogs, hamburgers, and bratwurst for ONLY $3 on Sunday and Monday, May 26th and 27th from 10am-2pm at the turn. Be sure to come hungry! Also those with a military I.D. can purchase a round for only $25!

Saturdays in the Sun
Downtown La Porte will be adding to the city’s fitness regimen with Saturdays in the Sun. Every Saturday at 9am, a different health-related activity will be featured on the Courthouse Square. This Saturday will feature an activity by the YMCA.
Valparaiso Police F.O.P. Sponsoring Nelson Chicken Fundraiser
The Valparaiso Police Department’s F.O.P. Lodge 76 will be hosting a Nelson Chicken Fundraiser on Saturday May 25th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All money raised benefits many local organizations and events.
Memorial Day Offers Opportunity for Reflection
The City of Valparaiso, the Parks Department and the Parks Foundation encourage families, friends, and individuals this Memorial Day holiday weekend, to remember those who have served and given the ultimate sacrifice. The City will hold a Memorial Day observance at the Service Memorial at Foundation Meadows on Friday, May 24.
Chesterton European Market
The European Market continues this weekend, featuring items such as homemade incense to blown glass plates to pies and cupcakes to wooden craft work to traditional barbecue sandwiches. Over 100 vendors offer something for everyone!
