The annual Independence Day event has been postponed to July 5th, when festivities will continue as planned, including fresh food merchants and live music. Fireworks will be set off beginning at 9:15 pm.

The 56th Annual Parade takes place in Michigan City along Franklin Street from 10th Street to Ames Field. Parade starts at 11 am.

Through a campaign to celebrate 30 years, the SSCVA will be making 30 stops throughout the region in 30 days. Cedar Lake Summerfest will feature carnival rides, cupcake contest, teen scavenger hunt, and Echoes of Pompeii, a Pink Floyd Tribute Band, on Friday July 5. Visitors who stop at the Tour Mobile from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. will have the chance to receive a beach ball. Then come out to Shady Creek Winery in Michigan City on Sunday, July 7th!
The County Oldest Fair in Indiana Returns for its 168th Year
The great La Porte County Fair is celebrating its 168th year in 2013! July 7th through the 14th, Indiana’s oldest county fair will bring great entertainment to the La Porte County Fairgrounds! End your weekend with the first day of the fair!
Huge VHS Alumni Concerts to Honor Retiring Director
As a final tribute to Mr. Pritchett, the retiring VCS Band Director, and the Valparaiso High School Music Department, a huge Alumni Concert Weekend has been organized! Over 175 VHS Alumni from the past 38 years, including many who have gone on to professional music careers will be coming in from around the country for this special event!
Healthy Portage Starts Here
Free, fun fitness in the park will be offered every Saturday morning at 10 am in July. Zumba will be held on July 6 at Gilbert Memorial Park.
Friday at the Movies and a Car Show
Friday at the Movies and Car Show will continue throughout the summer at Monroe and State Street in the Herald Argus parking lot. The next movie night will be on July 5th with a showing of the beloved Dr. Seuss classic, The Lorax.

Billy’s Sound Factory and the Hope, Faith, Family Relay for Life of Duneland team invite you to grab a friend, a few bucks and cast your vote for your favorite singer competing in this year’s karaoke fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. The team will be leading the karaoke singing contest and collecting votes at Westchester Lanes and Lounge on Friday, July 5.
Southern Shore Art Association Announces Fundraiser Art Book Sale
The Art Book Sale will run concurrently through the month-long “Summer of Art” exhibition, an annual event at the SSAA Gallery. The exhibition opens on First Friday, July 5, 5-8pm. Visitors are invited to meet SSAA member artists and enjoy SSAA’s hospitality in the historic Uptown Arts District on that evening.
Native American Heritage Day at I.F.G.
You can hear the sound of drumming and Native American songs wafting through the air on Sunday, July 7th. Different events will run from noon to 4pm cst. There will be other re-enactors and craftspeople working on authentic demonstrations and happy to talk to visitors about their work.
