This weekend a walk against heart disease, a scrapbook fundraiser, 3rd annual brewfest, 10K benefit race, a homecoming tailgate party, a walk against homelessness, a pet pantry open house, a parade of homes, an art tasting, and a fall yard sale are all on tap for a fun weekend in Northwest Indiana!

This Saturday Northwest Indiana residents will join together in supporting the fight against heart disease and stroke on Saturday, September 29. The 2012 American Heart Association Porter County Heart Walk will begin at 9 am at Coffee Creek in Chesterton. The event highlights include a non-competitive one, two, and three mile walk, and a fun run; a free, family-friendly health festival with entertainment and giveaways; educational resources on heart health; and tributes to those who have been affected by heart disease and stroke.
Fundraising Event for Neilah and Jaidyn Maule
On Saturday, September 29, a Scrapbooking/Silent Auction/Dinner Dance Fundraiser will be held, benefiting Neilah and Jaidyn Maule at St. Mary's Church in Otis, Indiana. Scrapbooking will take place from 8 am to 4 pm and includes breakfast and lunch. The Dinner Dance features a spaghetti dinner and music with a DJ.
3rd Annual Brewfest
For those who have their tickets, the 3rd Annual Brewfest takes place this Saturday at Central Park Plaza in Valpo. The fest features unlimited sampling from more than 60 craft breweries and cool tunes by Fresh Hops Firkin Cave. For those who did not get tickets, mark your calendars for next year so you don't miss out!

On September 29th, Immanuel will hold their first annual Run Into Fall 10K race and 1 mile kids fun run. The race will take place through the streets of Valparaiso. All proceeds from the race will benefit the Immanuel food pantry. The food pantry is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. They have been supplying food to the residents of Washington and Center Township for over 25 years. In 2011, they gave away 54.3 tons of food to over 6,000 area families in need.
La Porte Educational Development Foundation's 11th Annual Homecoming Tailgate Party
The La Porte Educational Development Foundation will host their 11th annual Homecoming Tailgate Party on September 28, 2012 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Kiwanis Practice Field. In addition to the food there will be face painting, a dunk tank, an inflatable jumping house, a bake sale, a visit from the LPHS cheerleaders, and the 2012 Homecoming candidates. The dunk tank will feature staff members! All proceeds benefit the La Porte Educational Development Foundation teacher grant program.

This weekend is the Homeward Bound 5K Walk on September 29, a walk to provide housing and fight homelessness. This 5K will be held at Washington Park in Michigan City.

On Saturday, September 29, 2012, from Noon-4:00 pm the Kibble Kitchen pet pantry will be hosting our 2nd Annual Puppy Paws & Kitty Claws fall open house. The open house is being held in hopes of spreading the word about the pantry and the service we provide to Porter County families. During the open house Lakeshore Paws will be in attendance showcasing animals available for adoption. Come see what the pantry is all about, enjoy tours of the pantry, raffles, pet related items for sale and much more!
September Parade Weekend
Join Steiner Homes this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, as they show 3 homes from 12 to 4 pm. The Emma, the Gretchen, and the Alexandria will be on display, charming designs made from quality materials. Spoiler alert: there will be snacks!

On Saturday, September 29th, the Chesterton Art Center will host a free art tasting. Guests are welcome to try their hand at a variety of different art forms, including painting, drawing, stained glass, watercolor, and ceramics.

The Independent Cat Society will be holding its annual Fall Yard Sale at the ICS Shelter on Saturday, September 29th and Sunday, September 30th from 10am to 3pm. Along with our many yard sale bargains, we will have tons of cat-related items for sale, such as catnip mats, catnip toys, jewelry, birdhouses, and much more!
