Porter Health Care System will present the Healthy Hustle 5K Run/Walk at 8 am, Saturday, June 1 at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, 775 Meridian Road in Valparaiso. Proceeds from the event will benefit Lakeshore Paws. Register for the Healthy Hustle here!

 

Benefit Concert for Hilltop to be Held at Valpo Velvet
This Friday, May 31st, the VHS Alliance of Students Against Poverty (ASAP) will be holding a benefit concert for Hilltop House at Valpo Velvet. The concert starts at 6:30 pm and features music from Angelo Cicco, Ken F. Johneddy, Flight 10:50, and Elke.

Come out for the United Dance Arts Student Appreciation Day on Saturday, June 1, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Register for summer and fall classes, meet the instructors, tour our facility, enjoy food, drinks, dance demonstrations, and giveaways!

Central Park Plaza Market Celebrates Opening Day on June 1!
The Central Park Plaza Market brought to you by Valparaiso Community Festivals & Events (VCFE) will open on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 8am for the season and the day will include a grand opening celebration from 10am-1pm. During that time families will enjoy special festivities where kids can play games and receive a free junior ice cream cone from Valpo Velvet! Kids can also get a free balloon art twisted on the spot!

On Friday evening, artist and teacher Kirsten Renehan and some students will debut several art works made over the last month, inspired by RED, a composition created for the South Shore Orchestra to debut as a part of their first season concert this Friday! Besides RED, Dvorak’s New World Symphony No. 9 will take us on a historical reflection of his visit to America in the 1890’s.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee and adapted for the stage by Christopher Sergel, “To Kill a Mockingbird” is primarily a play about growing up under extraordinary circumstances in 1935 in The South. The story covers a span of three years, during which the main characters undergo significant changes.

Krueger Middle School to Host Water Festival
On Saturday, June 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Krueger Middle School (2001 Springland Avenue) will hold a Water Festival to kick off Coastal Awareness Month. This free event is open to the public, and will feature tours of the school’s two-mile Bird Habitat Trail and one-mile Forest Management Path, along with lots of activities and games for kids (including a dunk tank!).

Four Young Women Sharing Their Style to Meet the Needs of Others
A clothing sale fundraiser called Selfless Style will be happening on June 1 and June 2 at Viking Arena parking lot by TJ Middle School. Selfless Style is a clothing sale fundraiser. Four young ladies have given up a HUGE chunk of their closets in order to make money to provide for the needs of the people in Mitaboni, Kenya and Otavolo, Ecuador.

"With This Ring" Wedding Display
At 1P.M. on Saturday June 1st, a 1950’s-style Garden Wedding Reception will be held at the museum to “kick-off” the new display. Refreshments such as cake, punch, and tea sandwiches will be served in the meeting room. Weather permitting, there will be outdoor seating on the lawn of the museum.

Northwest Indiana will be hosting the 30th anniversary of the "world's fastest triathlo" on Sunday, June 2. Demo Day, a free public event, will showcase a variety of active lifestyle sports and products in addition to triathlon gear. Attendees will enjoy food and entertainment, including Chicago-based band Board of Governors from noon until 1 p.m., a beer garden, and educational opportunities with professional athletes discussing their training, gear and nutrition.
