Can you believe March is already nearing its end? This week moves us closer to Spring and Northwest Indiana is thawing out with some fun activities! Check out these fun events coming up this weekend as the Easter Bunny readies his basket of goodies!

March 23: Wiley and the Hairy Man at the Canterbury Theatre - Michigan City, IN
Alliance Children's Theater of Indiana and Canterbury Winter Arts Series present the award-winning children's play, Wiley and the Hairy Man, for three performances only. This exciting story, written by popular children's playwright Susan Zeder, will be performed on Friday evening, March 23 at 7:00 and again on Saturday, March 24 at 2:00 and Sunday, March 25 at 2:00 at the Canterbury Theatre (807 Franklin Street) in Michigan City.

March 23: Portage Y Rocks! - Portage, IN
Join the Portage Y on Fridays in March and help to fill Portage with painted treasures. This class is instructed by volunteer & experienced art teacher, Brenda Farris. Pick a design template or create your own, the choice is yours. While not required, you can then hide your painted rocks around Portage and all over Porter County to participate in the Facebook Portage Rocks! group.

March 23: Valpo's Annual Soup Bowls for the Hungry Fundraiser - Valparaiso, IN
Valparaiso University’s art department will auction off original artwork at their eighth annual Soup Bowls for the Hungry silent auction. Creative, unique soup bowls and art created by Valpo students and staff are available for bid. All proceeds will benefit Project Neighbors, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing to low-income families. The annual Soup Bowls for the Hungry silent art auction fundraiser is part of the Empty Bowl Project, a national movement in which potters donate income from their wares to worthy causes.

March 23: Montenegro - March Topic at the Valpo International Center's "Fourth Friday" - Valparaiso, IN
The Valparaiso International Center (The VIC), an independent nonprofit organization, will host a presentation about Montenegro on Friday, March 23, at 7:00 pm. The event is part of The VIC’s Fourth Friday series at the organization’s headquarters, 309 East Lincolnway, Valparaiso. Olivera Stankovic is the featured speaker this month. She will talk about the culture, history, food, and traditions of her homeland. An outdoors enthusiast and athlete, Olivera will also discuss and show photos of Montenegro’s natural wonders. While only about the size of Connecticut, the tiny former Yugoslav republic boasts stunning mountain scenery and dramatic coastlines. A question-and-answer opportunity will follow the presentation, and there will be a tasting of Montenegrin treats.

March 23: Bishop Noll Institute Lenten Fish Fry Dinners - Hammond, IN
Bishop Noll Institute will host Lenten fish fry dinners from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 23, March 2, 9, 16 and 23. Diners should enter Door C at the school, 1519 Hoffman St. in Hammond. Dinners include choice of entrée, salad bar/sides, dessert and beverages. Prices are $8 for pollock, $9 for ocean perch, $11 for shrimp and $11 for mixed plate (pollock, perch and shrimp). 

March 24: Michigan City Police Department Easter Egg Hunt - Michigan City, IN
On Saturday March 24th, Chief Mark Swistek, Captain Ed Beutner, Mayor Ron Meer and the members of the Michigan City Police Department will be hosting their annual 6th annual “Easter Egg Hunt”. Once again this year will be holding the event in Fedders alley located in Washington Park. Starting at 11am Captain Ed and the Michigan City Zoo will be on hand to entertain the children. At 12:00pm sharp they will start the “hunt”. Everyone is strongly encouraged to arrive early as last year traffic was backed up on Lakeshore Drive at the start of the hunt. The actual hunt will start at 12:00pm rain or shine. This year they will have eggs in all areas that contain a special “Easter Coin” where the coin can be exchanged for a special prize at the prize areas. This is a free to all children 0 to 12 years old!

March 24: Relay for Life of South Lake County 2nd Annual Spring Craft Fair - Crown Point, IN
Relay For Life of South Lake County will be hosting their 2nd Annual Spring Craft Fair on Saturday, March 24th from 9am-3pm at The Crown Point Moose Lodge. 29 Vendors! Lots of variety! FREE ADMISSION!

March 24-25: Photos with the Easter Bunny - Valparaiso, IN
Avoid long lines at the mall and hop into Taltree for your family photos with the Easter Bunny! Stop by the Depot and have your fun moment captured forever. Just bring your best smile and camera! After your photos, check out the Railway Garden and visit with our live animals in our Adventure Garden or stay for a quick craft! And don’t forget our Easter Egg Hunt on March 25th!

March 24-25: Indiana Dunes Scavenger Hunt - Chesterton, IN
Looking for something different to do? The Indiana Dunes Scavenger Hunt is your guide to discovery and adventure in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Pick up the Indiana Dunes Scavenger Hunt flyer at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center or the Paul H. Douglas Center. There are nine amazing places to explore. Ask a ranger at either center for a hint to help you get started. Then you are ready for your adventure. Walk the trails and read the interpretive signs to answer the questions. Answer eight questions correctly and win a poster featuring the logos of all nine sites and your choice of a drawstring bag or reusable shopping bag. One poster and prize per party or family while supplies last.

March 25: Ponyo 10th Anniversary at the Portage 16 IMAX + GDX - Portage, IN
Fathom Events and GKIDS are excited to bring the 10th Anniversary of Hayao Miyazaki’s heartwarming family adventure, Ponyo, to movie theatres nationwide for a special three-day event on March 25 & 26 as part of Studio Ghibli Fest 2018.
