It's Christmas weekend and St. Nick is almost here. Better get your last minute shopping in, but make sure you sneak in some time for these great events coming up in the Region this weekend!

Holiday Magic- Dec 23-24
Celebrate the holiday season with family and friends at Chicagoland’s largest and longest-running lights festival. Brookfield Zoo’s 36th annual Holiday Magic, presented by ComEd and Meijer, invites guests to sing to the animals and enjoy professional ice-carving demonstrations, magic shows, a 41-foot talking tree, and special visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus (the latter through December 17).

Holiday Lights Downtown Whiting – Dec 21-24
Take a joyous winter stroll or drive down 119th Street to view Whiting's 2017 holiday light displays. The many displays and animated units throughout Historic Downtown Whiting include colorful, holiday favorites the entire family will love. The lights will be lit daily at dusk all holiday season long through January 7th, 2018.

Open State at Front Porch Music – Dec 21
Front Porch Music hosts Open Stages every week that are designed for All Ages, Any Instruments, and all styles of music. A featured artist plays from 7:30 to 8 at each Open Stage and then becomes the host who introduces the other acts and runs sound for them. Each performer may play 2-3 songs (10-15 minutes). The door opens at 7PM at which time performers may “sign up” to play. Admission is $3.50 for listeners and $2.50 for performers.

First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso Blue Christmas Service – Dec 21
 Blue? Yes, blue as in the blues. As in "I am feeling blue." Not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays. Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with cancer or some other disease that puts a question mark over the future, and a number of other human situations that make parties and joviality painful for many people in our congregations and communities.

Home for the Holidays – Dec 22
Our first annual night of giving will be full of joy & celebration. Join us for hors d’oeuvres, a fabulous silent auction, a cash bar, photos with SANTA, & an evening filled with holiday entertainment from some of our favorite talent.

Christmas Story Time – Dec 23
Children are invited to a Christmas story time at Michigan City’s Barker Mansion on Saturday, December 23 at 10 am Central Time. Cocoa and cookies will be served during the event, which takes place by the intricately-carved marble fireplace in the Drawing Room.

Santa Express Saturdays – Dec 23
Non-Stop Holiday Fun! Come climb aboard Bellaboo’s Santa Express for plenty of Train-Themed & Holiday PLAY! Complete with Bellaboo’s Engineer

JA Prom Night – Dec 23
A fundraiser benefiting Junior Achievement's financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs in Northwest Indiana.

Santas are Coming to Town – CP – Dec 23
Santas will be coming to town for the 7th Annual Hometown Happenings Santa Run, Walk & Ride at 9 am, Dec. 23rd in Crown Point, starting from St. Mary Catholic Community School, 405 E. Joliet St. Registration begins at 8 am.
