10 Fun Things to Do in Northwest Indiana: Chalk the Walk, SummerFest, and Father’s Day Fun

Each weekend we bring you 10 Fun Things to Do in Northwest Indiana so you are never without something to do! This weekend features some summer fun across the region with festivals, theatre shows, fundraisers, expos, a golf tournament, a paddling event, baseball and more!

2014 Portage Township Summer Fest 
Carnival wristbands are on sale now for the third annual Portage Township SummerFest, June 13th-15th at Haven Hollow Park (330 W. 700 N., Valparaiso, IN 46385) in South Haven. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 on site. Advanced ticket sales are going on now through Thursday, June 12th at noon at the Portage Township Trustee’s Office (3484 Airport Road, Portage, IN 46368). Township Trustee office hours are M-R 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. - Noon.

Corn Roast to Host First Annual Corn Hole Classic 
On Friday, June 13th the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce will be kicking off the start of Hometown Festival Days with their Corn Roast. This year’s festival will break the bounds of food, fun, and live entertainment. A healthy dose of friendly competition will be added to the event line up. On Saturday, June 14th the First Annual Crown Point Corn Hole Classic will be held 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the Crown Point Square.

Don't Miss "The Glass Menagerie" at the Memorial Opera House 
In Tennessee Williams' shattering classic, an aging Southern Belle longs for her youth and dreams of a better life for her children. her restless son Tom - a would-be poet and the story's narrator - gets swept up in his mother's funny and heartbreaking schemes to find his painfully shy sister, Laura, a husband. The Opera House will present an imaginative and intimate take on one of the most beautiful dramas in American theatre.

'Chalk the Walk' to Color Courthouse Square Again 
For the second year in a row, it will be a colorful summer on the sidewalks in downtown Valparaiso. That’s because ‘Chalk the Walk,’ a fun event held to support the Family and Youth Services Bureau, is making a return to the Porter County Courthouse on Saturday, June 14. In its inaugural go-round last year, Chalk the Walk raised nearly $14,000 for the FYSB.

Crown Point Vol. Ladies Aux. Host 2014 Pancake Breakfast 
The Crown Point Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will host their annual pancake breakfast on Saturday, June 14th from 7:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Crown Point fire station, located at 126 N. East Street. The auxiliary will be celebrating our 20th year of the pancake breakfast. This breakfast is the organization’s main fundraiser. Again this year’s proceeds will support the Hoosier Burn Camp and Crown Point Fire Rescue canine program, which will be used to rescue people trapped in a building collapse or other disaster situations.

2014 Marina Day at the Portage Public Marina 
Welcome to the Portage Public Marina. We are an Indiana Clean Marina. June 14th from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. we will provide coffee, water, hot dogs, and chips to our marina customers. The Coast Guard Auxilliary will be on hand to offer free boat inspections. We have safe boating literature, Porter County Tourism brochures, DNR information and Aquatic, and invasive species personnel will be on hands to pass out information and answer questions.

A New Event, 2nd Saturdays in the Uptown Arts District 
The Michigan City Mainstreet Association is pleased to present a new event, Uptown's Handmade Market on the corner of Franklin & 7th Street. Featuring music, food, and handmade goods for you and your family. Grab a Father's Day or graduation gift too! Starting this Saturday, June 14, 2014, 10am-2pm. Come hang out with us.

Join the Northwest Indiana Paddling Association for our 8th Annual Trail Creek Fun Float. New this year, we are celebrating the kickoff of the paddling season with a tiki themed paddle! Dig out your favorite (or ugliest) Hawaiian shirt and join us for a great day of paddling on Trail Creek. Following the paddle, we're hosting a beachside luau for all Fun Float paddlers.

La Porte Day at Four Winds Field for Father’s Day 
Today we began our final four days of school. While this brings a variety of emotions, it also presents a variety of opportunities! Tickets are still available for the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce’s “La Porte Day at Four Winds Field", on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Four Winds Field in South Bend, Indiana. Chamber Board President, Laura Francesconi, will be throwing the first pitch of the game in honor of La Porte Day.

Forest Park Golf Course Hosting Annual Father's Day Tournament 
Forest Park Golf Course will host its annual Father's Day Tournament on Sunday, June 16. Tee times are available from 6 a.m. until noon. The format will be an 18 Hole 2-player scramble. Winners will be awarded in Gross and Net Divisions for Men Only and Coed Teams. Visa Gift Card prizes will be awarded based on the number of teams in each division.
