The Purdue University Calumet women’s tennis team began its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference season on a high note Saturday, as the Peregrines defeated Judson University on the road by a score of 6-3.
The Peregrines (4-3, 1-0 CCAC) travel to league foe Cardinal Stritch University today for another conference matchup beginning at 1 p.m. (CT).
Saturday, Purdue Calumet nearly swept the singles field, as Lori Hass (Bismarck, Ill./Bismarck-Henning), Amber Haworth (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point), Ashley Pabey (East Chicago, Ind./E.C. Central), Abby Kvachkoff (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) and Emily Pearson (Hammond, Ind./Morton) all won their matches at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 singles, respectively.
Haas, Haworth and Pearson all won in straight sets, while Pabey won in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 battle over Judson’s Abby Jungles and Kvachkoff came back from a one-set deficit to win in three.
At doubles, the No. 1 duo of Haas and Haworth continued their strong season with a 8-6 win over Judson’s Marcilyn Rowan and Nyssa Fetzner to move their record to 5-2 on the year.
The Peregrines return home with a league matchup with rival Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday, April 4. Match time is set for 11 a.m. at Highland High School.
