Wolves Wire: October 2014

MC Wolves logoMichigan City High School is quickly becoming a model school for developing college and career opportunities for students. Thanks to our strong partnerships with Ivy Tech and Purdue North Central, we are developing programs and courses that will ensure that we con- tinue to be a leader not only in Northwest Indiana, but the entire state of Indiana in terms of the percent of students who graduate high school with college credits.

In addition to expanding our offerings of advanced placement and concurrent courses, Michigan City High School students also have the benefit of being able to explore various pathways available through the LaPorte County Career Center. Many of our students who earned college and career ready distinction received an indus- try certification. While we the know the importance of a college de- gree, the majority of the job openings in the state of Indiana over the next 5-10 years will be for middle skilled jobs. Those middle skilled jobs will require post-secondary skills that are currently be- ing taught via Ivy Tech and Purdue North Central. Please contact your students’ guidance counselor or the LaPorte County Career Center for more information.

We are celebrating homecoming the week of October 6-10. The main purpose of the week is to engage our students and entire community in being proud to be a Wolf. Please encourage your student(s) to participate and enjoy the many activities, such as the parade, the themed days, and the Olympics, that take place during the week.

I would like to thank all students, parents, and our teachers for a great August and September. As always, you can follow us on Twit- ter, Instagram, and like us on Facebook to remain informed of the many wonderful things taking place at Michigan City High School.
