The Bethany Lutheran Church Foundation of La Porte recently presented a 2014 seed grant to Frontline Foundations, Inc. for the non-profit substance abuse treatment center’s expansion to La Porte County. Frontline is certified through the Indiana division of mental health as certified outpatient alcohol and drug abuse treatment provider.
The grant provides necessary seed money for Porter County based Frontline to launch faith-based and certified treatment services to LaPorte County residents. Frontline has provided individual treatment, group counseling, and a recovery art program to young men, women and their families since 2007.
“Frontline continues to see a steady increase from La Porte residents seeking substance abuse treatment," said Amber Hensell-Hicks, Frontline Founder and CEO. “Serving those in need is the very core and purpose of our mission. It makes sense that we have a physical location in La Porte.”
Hensell-Hicks added: “We are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization and community support is essential in making an effective impact. We are very grateful to the Bethany Foundation for their generous support. We have made good progress in seeking partnerships and developing the initial steering committee.”
According to the 2013 Roosevelt Report, treatment admissions exploded from 2008 to 2011, making heroin the most significant emergent drug threat to La Porte County over the past several years. Treatment admissions for heroin increased 560% in just three years. The majority of people entering treatment for heroin are generally under the age of thirty.
“We are dealing with a substance abuse crisis in La Porte County that’s affecting young people and families,” said Pastor Meyer of Bethany Lutheran Church. “Frontline addresses this problem with skilled, qualified and licensed counselors who are grounded in Christian values.”
“The Bethany Lutheran Church Foundation of LaPorte believes in the mission and purpose of Frontline Foundations,” continued Pastor Meyer. “We could not be more excited about the work they will be accomplishing in LaPorte County.”
