Challenger Learning Center Plans July Second Saturday Event for July 12, 2014

Challenger-Learning-CenterThe Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana will host its monthly Second Saturday Family Science Program on Saturday, July 12, beginning at 2:00 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults and $10 for children. The event will include a hands-on activity, a planetarium show and a laser light show.

Help your “junior engineer” create their own rocket during the Hands-on Family Science activity. Perfect your rocket until it goes further and faster. This activity is appropriate for children ages 7 and up.

The planetarium show, “Dawn of the Space Age,” is an accurate historical reconstruction of man’s first steps into space. From the launch of the first artificial satellite Sputnik, to the lunar landing and privately operated space flights, witness men and women’s drive to explore. Attendees will also be shown easy-to-use stargazing tips to find points of interest in the skies over southern Lake Michigan during “South Shore Skies.”

The laser light show, “Laser Spirit,” will feature laser light art set to patriotic songs from artists like John Williams, Yanni, Madonna and more.

Those not wishing to participate in the hands-on activity may purchase tickets to either the laser light show or planetarium show at $5 for adults or $3 for children. A special package including both shows is $8 for adults and $5 for children.

Individual planetarium shows begin at 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Individual laser shows begin at 3:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.
