Leadership La Porte County Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Leadership-LaPorte-CountyLeadership La Porte County, Inc. is pleased to announce the celebration of its 30th anniversary. Many activities to celebrate 30 years of good community leadership are being offered.

The organization became a 501 (c) not for profit organization in February, 1984. The formation of the organization took place after a group of community business leaders gathered to discuss the need for more citizens to engage in community leadership, to volunteer in the community, and to serve on the board of directors of local non-profit organizations. Founding board members for the organization include: George Averitt, George Dearborn, Kathryn Dearborn, Denise Holmes, Jim Jessup, Ned Kalb, Harriet Lehner, Charlie Sparks, and Ed Volk.

Thirty years later, the organization continues to host programming and events that inspire, develop, cultivate and connect emerging and existing leaders to serve their diverse communities. Leadership programs have touched thousands of citizens in LaPorte County. The Adult Community Leadership program continues to be the flagship program with hundreds of local citizens as graduates. The High School Leadership program, which recently completed its 20th year of programming, has included 5 high school students from each LaPorte County high school for a 4-day workshop on leadership skill-building activities. A middle school program brings 6th, 7th and 8th grade students together for a week-long annual summer leadership camp, followed by a monthly after school civic program throughout the school year.

The organization has many opportunities for graduates of the program and community members to support the 30th anniversary celebration. “Leadership LaPorte County has promoted civic engagement and community leadership to highlight the qualities that make a great community. We invite the community to show their support of our mission and to celebrate good leadership by supporting our 30th Anniversary activities,” stated Executive Director, Monica Komasinski.
