Upcoming Dodgeball Challenge Fun for Teams and Fans

united-way-laporte-countyThe public is invited to attend United Way of LaPorte County’s Dodgeball Challenge on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marquette Catholic High School Scholl Student Center.

Admission is free, with a recommended donation of a non-perishable food item or cash to benefit local food pantries. Michiana Resources volunteers will be selling refreshments, with proceeds benefitting their nonprofit organization.

For the first time this year, attendees can purchase tickets for a chance to win $1,000 in a Dodgeball Three Point Basketball Shot Contest.

The Dodgeball Challenge is a highly-competitive, fun contest between area teams vying for the top spot. The first, second and third place teams and the male and female Most Valuable Players will receive trophies. Celebrity judges will hand out awards for the Best Team Uniform, the Best Individual Uniform and the #1 Fan. WIMS-AM General Manager Ric Federighi will do a live broadcast from the Scholl Student Center.

Event organizer Dave Sisk, community investment manager for United Way of LaPorte County, said 25 teams have registered for this year’s Dodgeball Challenge and a few more slots are available. The deadline for team registration is Monday, April 8.

“Many of these teams are out to win and have been practicing for weeks,” Sisk said.

The Dodgeball Challenge is sponsored by Sullair, Franciscan St. Anthony Health, Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital and WIMS Radio. Some teams currently registered are: La Porte Savings Bank, Michigan City Police Dept. (defending champs), Michigan City Fire Dept., NIPSCO, IU Health, Franciscan St. Anthony Health, WIMS Radio, Hearthside Food Solutions, FiberBond, Sullair, Blue Chip, Red Cross, McDonald’s, UPS, Electrical Union Workers, Sullair, Horizon Bank, and United Way of LaPorte County.
