On June 3, Northwest Health – La Porte presented the DAISY award for exceptional nursing to Amy Martinez, RN. Martinez, a labor and delivery nurse received five nominations for her expertise in helping women through the labor process in a calm, patient, attentive manner. All nominations mentioned that Martinez always puts her patients first and shows a tireless dedication to supporting people through labor, clearly explaining the process, giving suggestions and instructions, and tending to all of a patient’s needs.
DAISY Award winners personify Northwest Health’s commitment to delivering an outstanding experience for every patient. These nurses consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. They are recognized as role models among the nursing community.
Later that day, the hospital presented the PETALS award to Jordan Peterson, who registers patients in the hospital’s Emergency Room.
PETALS award honorees also personify Northwest Health’s commitment to delivering an outstanding patient experience. They work in roles, other than nursing, where they apply their expertise and customer service skills to provide professional support and compassionate care. They are role models within Northwest Health.
Peterson was nominated by the family of a one-year old child transported by ambulance with a potentially life-threatening condition. The family said the support she provided during registration far exceeded their expectations. Peterson’s calm demeanor put the family at ease in a high-stress situation. She was described as compassionate, courteous, patient- and family-focused, and professional.
