The CCAC announced its academic all-conference team Tuesday with four Indiana University Northwest women’s basketball student-athletes garnering the accolade.
A nominated CCAC student-athlete is an individual that is a member of the varsity team, has maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and has earned at least 30 semester hours of credit. The nominated student-athlete(s) must also be enrolled with the respected CCAC college/university for a minimum of one academic year.
Picking up the conference honors were Samantha Martin, Alyna Santiago, Emma Schmidt and Abbie Tomblin.
For the third time in her career Martin was named to the academic all-conference team. Along with her 3.713 GPA in radiologic sciences, the DeMotte, Ind., native averaged 8.5 points and seven rebounds over 29 starts as a senior.
Santiago, who was named academic all-league for the first time as she came in with a 3.422 GPA as a biology major. As a junior, Santiago started 26 games and led the team with 107 assists to go along with 33 steals, which ranked second.
Schmidt, meanwhile, is a two-time academic All-CCAC honoree as the Chesterton, native has a GPA of 3.364 with a nursing major. Schmidt played in 28 games as a junior and was fourth on the team in made three-point field goals and averaged 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest.
Tomblin rounds out the list of RedHawk to earn the academic all-conference honor has a 3.779 GPA and is working towards a degree in elementary education. Against Dordt, who was the eventual NAIA National Champion, Tomblin scored a career-high 22 points.
