Bishop gearing up for NCAA Regional Championship

Senior Alex Bishop (Litchfield, Ill./Litchfield) continues his historic 2021-22 campaign as the first Purdue Northwest golfer to participate in the NCAA Division II Regional Championship. Bishop will play in this week's NCAA postseason event, where he is one of 32 student-athletes competing as individuals and one of four selected in the Midwest Region. The 54-hole tournament is set for May 5-7 at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana.

With the threat of rain looming, the tournament has decided to switch to a shotgun start for round one tomorrow morning (9:45 a.m. ET) and then try to get round two in Thursday afternoon.

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the NCAA Finals May 16-20 at TPC Michigan in Detroit, Michigan.

Bishop set a school single-season record with a 73.85 scoring average through 20 rounds in 2021-22. He also set school records for most rounds of par or less in a season (8) and career (9), along with carding the lowest 36-hole score in school history when he shot a 139 (-5) at the Music City Invitational.

In addition, Bishop has the second-most birdies (62) in a season by a Pride men's golfer and needs five to break that mark. He only needs three to move into second place on the career chart for most birdies.

Bishop recently garnered All-GLIAC First Team honors and finished tied for 15th at the GLIAC Championship at 7-over par 149.

Earlier this season, Bishop became the first PNW men's golfer to win Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week following a third-place finish at the Panther Invitational.
