Porter Regional Hospital will hold a “Blow Away Breast Cancer” rally at Porter Regional Hospital to commemorate breast cancer awareness month in the community and to celebrate and honor those who have been affected by a breast cancer diagnosis. The public is invited.

The event will take place at 1:00 p.m.., Oct. 9 at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 East U.S. Highway 6, Valparaiso, at the flag poles in front of the main hospital entrance. In case of inclement weather, meet in the hospital’s main lobby.

The event will include comments from a hospital official, a breast cancer survivor and others, a flag raising ceremony, and “planting” of decorative pinwheels that symbolize the wind Blowing Away Breast Cancer.

“During breast cancer awareness month in October, we renew our focus on the fight against breast cancer. This Blow Away Breast Cancer event is one opportunity for us to remind women of the importance of an annual screening mammogram and a time to honor our patients and loved ones affected by breast cancer,” said Sean Dardeau, Porter Health Care System and Northwest Indiana Market Chief Executive Officer

The creators of the Blow Away Breast Cancer event – from Porter Regional Hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Department -- hope the breast cancer flag that waves throughout the month, and the pinwheels that blow in the wind, will create awareness about the importance of annual screening mammograms to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, when it is curable or most treatable.
