Chesterton Wrestling Team takes the trophy at IHSAA Sectionals in La Porte

Chesterton Wrestling Team takes the trophy at IHSAA Sectionals in La Porte

La Porte High School played host to the IHSAA Sectional Wrestling Tournament on Saturday with teams from over a dozen schools competing to take home the sectional championship trophy.

Wrestlers competed in 14 weight classes, with the top four winners in each weight class set to advance to the Regional Championship next Saturday, February 6. 

The wrestling team from Chesterton took top honors at today’s match with a total of 311.5 points, beating out New Prairie with 234.5 and third-place finisher La Porte, who put up a total of 184.5 points. Rounding-out the rest of the top teams were Valparaiso with 170 points, Glenn with 129, North Judson-San Pierre with 107, Knox with 91.5, and Michigan City with 36.5.

Brock Ellis from Chesterton took first place in the 152-pound weight class.

“I’m a senior, so this is a really nice way to finish my wrestling career at Chesterton,” Ellis said on taking first place in his weight class. “I wish I would have been on my offense a bit more and not given up that last second takedown, but I wanted to keep pushing the action and help keep my team’s score up.”
