Cap & Gown Pick Up
Graduation announcements, caps and gowns, tassels, honor cords, and other materials from Herff Jones will be distributed on Tuesday, May 5 at Michigan City High School. This will be a curbside “drive-through” opportunity and you will be receiving an email with the specific time you are scheduled to come. (Psssst.... We will be distributing some other fun materials including yard signs on this date, too, to honor our Class of 2020 grads!)
Virtual Ceremony Information
Our virtual commencement ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 7, at 12:00 noon (Central Time). We will be pre-recording portions of the ceremony (speeches, etc.) and will be broadcasting it live on social media, on our website, and on Channel 98. It will be available for later viewing on these outlets, as well. Each graduating senior will be contacted by our virtual graduation production partner, Herff Jones. They will be asking you to provide a photo in your cap and gown and to confirm other important information.
“Drive-Through” Diplomas
Diplomas (along with additional follow-up materials and academic awards) will be distributed on Sunday, June 7 in the afternoon. We will be asking you and your family (one car per graduate) to drive to MCHS for this “drive-through” diploma pick-up. We are working through some logistics on this and will be announcing the time and other specifics closer to the date.
Distinguished Graduates
Our 32 Distinguished Graduates of the Class of 2020 will be honored through an additional virtual production, which will air on social media and on Channel 98 on June 4 at 6:00pm. Please watch for more information coming from Mrs. Westphal. As is our tradition, we will be asking you to select a teacher who has been influential to you, who will be making remarks about you. Framed medallions (and bells for the teachers) will be distributed following this ceremony.
Senior Awards
Our school counselors will be pre-recording the annual Senior Awards program, and this event will air on Thursday, May 28 at 6:00pm on social media and Channel 98. This production will be a salute to our many seniors who are receiving academic awards and scholarships from both universities and community organizations. Mrs. Galloway and Mr. Garrett will be reaching out to collect and confirm your information!
Senior Signings
Mr. Garrett has sent out a survey regarding your future plans for college, military, and entry into the trades. Please be sure to complete and return this as soon as possible! This information will help us in planning “signing day” recognition on social media for our Class of 2020.
Returning Materials, Picking up Belongings
Once the stay-at-home order is lifted, we will be sharing information with all students (grades 9-12) regarding a procedure for returning school materials (textbooks, library books, instruments, etc.) and picking up items from your lockers.
Prom
Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2019-20 Prom.
Senior Picnic
We have not ruled out the possibility of a picnic or other in-person gathering for our graduates later in the summer or early in the fall, if it is deemed safe for large groups to convene. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will keep you informed of plans. Please make sure that we have up-to-date email, phone, and address information for you!
If You Have Other Questions
