Student Spotlight
Emma Ray is an upcoming senior at Westville High School. Ray has attended Westville since third grade, and she is an extremely fun, energetic, and bright student. Ray loves the school and community atmosphere at Westville and has enjoyed growing up in such a tight knit town.
“Everyone knows everyone, and it’s easy to make friends,” said Ray.
Ray is a very involved student and community member. Throughout the previous school year, she participated in Volleyball, Poms, Tri-M, Advanced Choir, and Mid-American Pompon Allstars. She continues to be involved in activities throughout the summer by participating in beach volleyball, poms camp, and volleyball open gyms.
Her favorite sport is volleyball.
“It’s exciting to get to continuously play with the girls I’ve been playing with since seventh grade. The sport is all around fun to play and watch,” said Ray
Along with being very involved, Ray also enjoys making the most of her free time. When she’s not participating in one of her many sports or activities, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family.
This summer Ray is looking forward to being with friends and being able to experience new things before becoming a senior. As she goes into her senior year, Ray is excited about the many opportunities to earn college credits. She also looks forward to growing as a student and graduating at the end of the year.
After high school, Ray hopes to attend Indiana University, but she is undecided about what field of study and career she wants to pursue. Ray is a very determined and hard working student who is also looking for an opportunity to be involved and better herself and the community. Westville is proud to have Ray and all other outstanding students like her.

Pom Camp
Every summer, Westville’s Pom Team conditions and works hard to prepare themselves for the annual Mid American Pompon Summer Camp. This year the team will be attending the camp that takes place from Wednesday, June 27 to Saturday June 30.
Preparations for camp started with tryouts for the team, which took place in April. Practices for camp then started at the beginning of June, and it was only the beginning of all of the hard work that was ahead of the team. During these practices, the girls had to to learn an original routine to perform for the upcoming camp.
When the day of camp comes, team members will meet at the school at around five in the morning and start the long trek to Davenport University in Michigan. Once arriving, the fun and craziness of camp begins right away.
Each day of camp is themed and packed with everything from learning new routines, bonding with your team, and performing in front of a panel of judges. This years themes are school spirit day, crazy sock day, and international day. Every team will dress up in their best quirky shirts and props for the theme.
Throughout the camp, teams will learn a new routine every day that they will perform at the nightly evaluations where they will be judged on everything from form to showmanship. To help them with learning and performing these routines, each school will be assigned a Staff Sister who will help to guide the team and walk them through any struggles or difficulties that they may have.
By the end of the camp, all of the girls are sure to be exhausted yet exhilarated at the same time. Years past have proven that Summer Camp is a great way to bring the schools pom team closer together and prepare them for their upcoming season. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the whole team, and they are sure to have an amazing time.
