Susie Richter, curator of the LaPorte County Historical Society Museum, welcomed Boston Middle School’s Sixth Grade High Ability class on Friday, May 13th. Ms. Richter shared her extensive knowledge on all different parts of the museum and gave the students more specific details on their most famous exhibits. These include the W. A. Jones Gun collection including nearly 1,000 firearms, Dr. Kesling’s Car Collection, Civil War items, Belle Gunness, and the fourteen period rooms.
In addition to the famous Dr. Kesling car collection, students were able to see about fifteen Ford Thunderbirds parked in front of the museum. A Car club from Chicago visited the museum with the first generation (1955-1957) T-Birds. This was an unexpected treat for many of the students.
The museum is filled with many historic pastimes from our community and is truly a local treasure. Furthermore, it is an educational experience that piqued the curiosity of many students to research more on those topics. Our local museum is free for students age 18 and under. It is a wonderful learning opportunity for children in our area.
