Michigan City Wolves Wire, March 2016

MC Wolves logoMarch is here, which at the high school means our sophomore students will begin taking the ISTEP this year, which is a new test for the 2015-16 school year. In the past, since 2009-10, high school students were expected to take the End of Course Assessment (ECA) for Biology, English 10, and Algebra 1.

March also signals the countdown to our graduation ceremony, which will take place this year on Sunday, June 5, at noon. Graduation information will be sent home and made available on our website at the end of this month. At 93.7%, our attendance rate last year was one of the highest rates by MCHS since the 2006-2007 school year, when the Indiana Department of Education began recording the rates. Our attendance rate undoubtedly helped with our improved ECA scores as well as our graduation rate last year. Currently, our attendance rate is at 93%, which is below the state benchmark of 95 percent. Please encourage your students as well as friends and family members that in order for our vision of “Excellence for Everyone” to come to fruition, we need to have our students here every day as well as on time.

If you have or know of an incoming freshman, please be advised that we will host an Open House in conjunction with our Parent/Teacher conferences on March 23rd. At the Open House, future Wolves and their parents can hear about the wide array of academic and extra-curricular activities that we offer. For the conferences, please contact your student’s teacher by phone or email to set up an appointment. Your student may also bring a note in to the staff member and schedule a conference as well.
