Boston Middle School Participates in National Simultaneous Star-Spangled Banner with Schools Nationwide

Boston-Middle-SchoolOn September 11, 2015, Boston Middle School will participate in the American Public Education Foundation’s annual singing of the National Anthem. Singing in various schools across the United States has been coordinated to all begin at the exact same time on Friday, September 11. Ms. Mia Toschi, is the National Director for Strategic Partnerships for the APEF and Founder of this event. Additionally, her mother taught at Boston Middle school and she currently has cousins attending our school. Boston students will sing at noon local time (Central Standard Time).

The students are being asked to join together and simultaneously sing the National Anthem. Principal Deborah Carter was contacted by the American Public Education Foundation (APEF) which requested Boston Middle School help represent the central time zone. After consulting with the teachers, the staff agreed noting that students would benefit from learning the words and meaning of the national anthem, as well as, gaining an understanding of the importance remembering the sacrifices of September 11. Additionally, the APEF is striving to reach the world-record for largest simultaneous sing-a-long. If the record is broken, an announcement will be made on September 14, 2015 – which happens to be the Star-Spangled Banner’s 200th birthday.

Boston Middle School would like to invite community members to this special commemoration of our nation’s history. Mayor Blair Milo, the La Porte American Legion post, the VFW and the La Porte Police Chief Adam Klimzzak have all been invited to present at this event. The ceremony will begin at 11:45 AM and is expected to last 30 minutes. Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held outside on the BMS track. As a contingency plan, the ceremony will be held in the BMS Gymnasium. All attendees are encouraged to wear patriotic colors!
