Shipwreck Program at Barker Mansion on July 22, 2015

JD-MarshallThe shipwrecks of Lake Michigan and Indiana’s maritime history will be featured in a program at Barker Mansion on Wednesday, July 22 at 7 pm. The talk will focus primarily on the JD Marshall and the Muskegon, but will also briefly discuss the diversity of notable wrecks on Lake Michigan’s southern shore including the Lady Elgin, the Eastland and UC-97, the German WWI U boat. Brad Bumgardner of Indiana Dunes State Park will give the one-hour presentation, which includes historic photos and artifacts. The event takes place at the mansion and a $1 fee applies.

Barker Mansion is located at 631 Washington Street in Michigan City, IN. The 38-room mansion was built by freight car industrialist and philanthropist John H. Barker in 1905. In addition to summer programs, guided tours of the mansion are offered Monday through Friday at 10 am, 11:30 am, and 1 pm, as well as on Saturdays and Sundays at 12 pm and 2 pm. Cost for a tour is $5 per adult and $2 per child. Reservations are not necessary for regular tours.
