The Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) created an award this year to honor outstanding middle school band programs. Out of the hundreds of middle school music programs, only 18 bands in the state earned the “All Music” award. Both the Boston and Kesling Bands earned the first-ever “All Music” award for the 2014-2015 school year.
The “All Music” award is given to middle school music programs that exhibit excellence in all areas of the program. Each recipient must show they have students who earn GOLD ratings at the solo and ensemble competition, the jazz bands must earn a GOLD rating at contest in March, and finally the 8th grade bands must earn the GOLD rating at contest in March. The band programs who earn this award have demonstrated that the band program is well rounded and ensures a good musical education in all aspects of the program.
